CHICO — Police said a Taser stun gun round was needed to subdue an Oroville man who allegedly brandished a knife, then struggled with officers, in front of the Western Dental Center on Cohasset Road about 12:40 p.m. Monday.
The suspect, identified as Celso Barreras, 46, was at the dental office with a woman who had an appointment, police said.
Barreras became upset for unknown reasons and reportedly became violent with the woman.
A man passing by confronted Barreras, who reportedly brandished a folding knife at him, but kept the blade in the closed position, police said.
Officers were called to the scene and ordered the man to drop to his knees. He failed to comply, then allegedly tried to bite one of the officers who approached him with his baton drawn. The suspect was taken to the ground, but continued to struggle. A second officer hit Barreras with a round from a Taser stun gun, which ended his resistance.
He was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail in Oroville on suspicion of battery on a spouse or cohabitant and battery on a peace officer.
