News; Vt. State Police Want Stun Guns For All Troopers

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- A top Vermont State Police official said the agency wants to outfit almost all of its troopers with stun guns.
Vermont State Police Capt. Robert Evans told the Barre Montpelier Times Argus a handful of troopers have had stun guns for the past four years as part of a pilot program.
He said the test has been successful.
The state police command staff has now approved a recommendation that all uniformed troopers be issued stun guns.
Now officials are looking for the money to buy the devices. Evans said they cost about $1,000 each.
The goal would be to buy 260 stun guns. The state police is authorized to have 327 troopers.
